$100,000 grant supports pets in need

DENVER (January 5, 2021) The Dumb Friends League Solutions – Veterinary Hospital is working to meet a vital need in our Denver community for low-cost veterinary care. Subsidized by a compassionate community of donors and partners, the work at Solutions – Veterinary Hospital would not be possible without aid from partners like PetSmart Charities. Over the past year, PetSmart Charities has helped keep pets in homes when their owners may not otherwise be able to afford treatment. By supporting subsidized care, the grant award received from PetSmart Charities has helped more than 1,600 pets.

Pets like Beavis, an 8-year-old cat, who came to Solutions – Veterinary Hospital as a referral from a private veterinarian. Beavis had trouble eating and had a severe dental abscess, widespread periodontal disease and several teeth already missing. Unable to afford the necessary dental care, Beavis’s owner brought him to Solutions – Veterinary Hospital for full-mouth dental extractions. The skilled team at Solutions performed dental surgery to remove his remaining 25 diseased teeth. Following his surgery, Beavis is much more comfortable and doing well.

“The work being done at Solutions – Veterinary Hospital is instrumental in not only alleviating animal suffering but in keeping pets in their homes, where they belong,” said Sharon Thomas, Director of Community Veterinary Services. “Thanks to support from PetSmart Charities, we are able to offer high-quality, low-cost veterinary care to a community that otherwise might not be able to afford it.”

“Dumb Friends League has proven to be a trusted community partner and invaluable resource to the pets and pet parents of Denver,” said Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities. “We are thrilled to support the Solutions – Veterinary Hospital, that makes affordable pet care more accessible to those in need – especially during the pandemic. Through our continued partnership, it is our hope this work keeps more people and pets together while reducing the strain on community resources.”

The funding received from PetSmart Charities means Solutions – Veterinary Hospital can continue to serve the thousands of pets like Beavis each year. And we anticipate this need will continue to increase as more people in the Denver Metro Area find themselves financially vulnerable due to the COVID-19 crisis.
